Furniture Maker - Rupert Blanchard

Rupert Blanchard

"When I combined all of these random, ugly styles, it seemed to make something really brilliant. I guess that's when I started to be attracted to mundane sources and parts of everyday life."

.

.

Rupert Blanchard works out of a studio in a nondescript alley in London. Here, he focuses on objects that no longer fulfill the purpose for which they were originally created. Rupert enjoys the challenge of collecting discarded, broken, and over-looked materials and turning them into distinctive pieces of furniture. "Sometimes I'll have a bolt-out-of-the-blue discovery and everything falls into place… other times I'll play a 3-dimensional game of Tetris for a year until a cabinet comes together."

Rupert Blanchard is located in London (United Kingdom).

Rupert salvages old and discarded materials from around London, giving them new life in unique pieces of furniture. The frames of many of his cabinets were built with discarded plywood from concrete forms used in building the London olympic stadium in 2012.
