Reform Studio

“We see design as a re-creation of an existing idea, a re-development of objects, a reusing of materials, a reviving of cultures, and a reforming of our world.”

Reform Studio was co-founded by Mariam Hazem and Hend Riad with the primary aim to address the waste problem in Egypt. They’re promoting the use of sustainable materials for everyday items like fashion, furniture, and home accessories. Reform pioneered the invention of Plastex, a handmade eco-friendly material made by weaving discarded plastic bags. Through their work, they are tackling plastic waste while also reviving the traditional craft of weaving, elevating craftspeople and empowering women.

Reform Studio is located in Egypt.

"Our feeling of responsibility toward our society and environment gave us the motivation to solve one of the greatest problems in Egyptian waste.”

Reform’s mission is to raise environmental awareness, supporting the shift to sustainability by transforming discarded plastic bags into Plastex, prolonging the life cycle of a plastic bag from its average use of 12 minutes into years.
